Our Equipment
Ghost Hunters NZ use a wide variety of equipment to investigate
different locations.
The main "tools of the trade" are our night vision cameras. We have
2 Handheld portable digital night vision cameras and 4 wireless remote night vision cameras. The wireless cameras also have a remote audio function which lets us listen to whats happening in a room / area remotely from our base station.
To sort the video we have a remote receiver which splits the 4 remote
cameras and audio into separate channels which is then split into two
monitor systems. One system is out video digital processor which not
only displays all 4 cameras on screen at the same time (so you dont
miss anything) but it also has motion detection software so that if
a member of the group does not notice that something is moving on one of the cameras, an alarm sounds and we can also make that camera auto full screen.
Audio streaming in live from the cameras are fed into a digital tour
track recorder which records all 4 channels at the same time. This
allows us to review each channel separately after investigation.
To keep in touch with each other in those dark rooms and basements, we have wrist watch walky talkies. These little babies have a range of 1.5 miles.
To monitor the camera feeds and record them we have a 32" LCD Monitor which is large enough to show quality images whilst viewing the different cameras. Then two laptops are used to record the incoming data so we have backups in case of power outage. We also carry EMF detectors (Electro Magnetic Field) and remote laser thermometers. We also carry local thermometers to measure the temperature around the investigator, this is because the laser thermometers give take the temperature of the object they are pointing to.
During an investigation digital photographs are captured to check for
anomalies using two high quality digital cameras.
We have a wireless fm remote microphone which is used for remote listening in rooms / locations which are reported to have lots of audio activities.
Torches are used through out the investigations at night and we have
windup torches too as sometimes batteries can just drain in some locations. This is believed to be because the entity is drawing in power from what ever source it can to manifest / make a sound etc. With windup torches we are never going to be alone in the dark.
During investigations and setup we carry 40 channel walkie talkies. These are used during setup so that we can position cameras and solve connection problems before we go lights out. Then during investigations we can use them to alert other team members to possible activities / problems. This is also a safety feature.
Power is used from local sources at each location unless the said location does not have power in which case the cameras work off car batteries and the monitor equipment runs of a generator. Sometimes we need to use both if power points are scarce in areas of activity so we place cameras running off batteries and then position the base of operations around main power sources.
As you can probably tell by now all this equipment does not come cheap. We do not charge clients for investigations as we are trying to document paranormal activity for the love of it. What we do welcome are donations from clients, people who share the same passion and the others who are able to give what ever they can to help support our work. Donations go towards equipment, travel, refreshments during investigations, stationary, media publications which include business cards, headed stationary and website hosting.
