Dunedin
It was built between 1871 and 1876 for Australian born merchant, banker and politician William J.M. Larnach, his heiress wife Eliza Jane and their six children. No expense was spared. Top quality materials were acquired ¢ marble from Italy, glass from Venice, tiles from England ¢ then punted across the harbour and dragged up the 1,000-foot hill by ox-drawn sleds. Glass enclosed Colonial style verandas wrap around the first two floors of the Gothic Revival stone castle. Inside are the only Georgia hanging staircase in the southern hemisphere, a priceless Venetian glass wall, ornately carved plaster ceilings and many other noteworthy features. Amid all this finery, though, ghosts are believed to wander. Both the first and second Mrs. Larnachs, who were half-sisters, died in the castle at age 38. The first Mrs. Larnach died alone of apoplexy, all other members of the family being away at the time. She is said to make her presence felt near the bedroom in which she died. The Larnachs' daughter Katie is said to haunt the ballroom, built to celebrate her 21st birthday in 1886. She died just a few years later of typhoid. The spectre of Larnach himself might linger in the castle. In 1898, after learning of an affair between his young third wife and one of his sons from his first marriage, he ended his life by shooting himself in the head. Some guests are relieved to learn that their rooms aren't actually in the castle, says Sophie Barker, whose family currently owns the property and who admits to having had her own eerie experiences in the castle. Guests are accommodated in the separate Larnach Lodge, built in 1982, which has 12 individually decorated rooms with panoramic views of the harbour. Breakfast is available in the adjacent converted stable, but guests may arrange to have dinner in the castle dining room. Anton Heyrick-GHNZ

According to legend, during the night hours, groups of spirits and individuals can be seen moving down the beach to a certain point and then disappearing. These spirits are apparently very focused on reaching a particular part of the beach and will not be distracted from their goal. Spooky. Anton Heyrick-GHNZ
Tutukaka Coast- Ngunguru - 9 years ago, august 2000, there was a man, George Marson, who killed his pregnant fiancé by leaving her inside a burning car outside his house,. He is incarcerated now. The house has been the victim to constantly being set on fire, until the council had it torn down. Magnolias trees and little plants won't grow on the land now. Psychics feel a sad overwhelming energy about the place with two unknown spirits hiding in the back of the yard, for some reason. The elderly locals who have lived there for 50 years do not feel much of this. Anton Heyrick-GHNZ
Tutukaka Coast- Wellingtons (Whangaumu) Bay - There is a pine forest that surrounds the area between Wellingtons Bay and the little village of Ngunguru and people often pass through this forest to get there when the tide is too high. For years people have gone out in the darker hours of the morning or gone to the beach fishing and feel disturbed and afraid, though nothing unusual happens. A tall golden human figure is seen now and then. It is attracted to people and it is very negative. Psychics feel the negative energy of the place though the locals do not. It is some sort of an entity and has been there hundreds of years and is very confused. Anton Heyrick-GHNZ

Wellington- The Hotel intercontinental - The intercontinental hotel used to be the Old Park Royal, level two of this building and its rooms are haunted. You could feel someone is always watching you, and you can feel a certain Cold Spots and eerie feeling in Room 221. The staff reports one particular Hotel Guest committed suicide, and a few worker's being killed while the hotel was being build. Anton Heyrick-GHNZ
Wellington- Karori Cemetery - Karori Cemetery is New Zealand's second largest burial ground, covering nearly 40 hectares. It was the final resting place of about 80,000 people. Today, it is a wealth of Wellington history and a peaceful place to visit or is it?. The cemetery was established in 1891 to replace the overcrowded Bolton Street Cemetery. The Cemetery filled quickly and by the 1950s had nearly reached maximum capacity. Makara Cemetery became Wellington's principal cemetery in 1965. The only plots available now at Karori Cemetery are pre-purchased ash or family plots, and children's plots. Karori Cemetery's crematorium was New Zealand's first crematorium and is the oldest in Australasia, opening in 1909. It carries out about 450 cremations a year. The Karori Cemetery is a huge rather scary cemetery even in the daylight... It is the size of a large park, and the south side of it is where all the old graves are. Witnesses have seen an orange sort of floating light drifting among the graves. It was a clear night and there was no one else around, witness state you can hear dis-embodied voices, loud footsteps, apparitions, and cold spots.. and the feeling of being watched. St. James Theatre
There have been numerous reports of several spirits or ghosts in the St. James Theatre. One of the most seen ghosts is that of Yuri, a Russian performer who supposedly fell to his death from the flies several metres above the stage. Another account, more widely accepted, says he was pushed by a female named Pasha, also a Russian performer. Yuri has been encountered playing with the lights, especially turning them all back on again once cleaners have left for the night. One projectionist says Yuri saved his life twice. While on stage, the lights went out in the auditorium. While searching for the light switch, he was pushed backwards by what he believed was Yuri. The lights turned back on and the projectionist realised he was only inches from the orchestra pit and if he had not been pushed back, would have fallen in. The second time he says Yuri saved him was when he was on stage with his infant son. He suddenly heard a beam collapse above him. The projectionist insists he was pushed back by Yuri and that his son was "carried" through the air for about 3 metres. Other than Yuri, many other ghosts have been reported in the theatre. The "Wailing Woman" is a frequent apparition who is said to wail throughout the theatre. According to accounts, she was an actress trying to make a comeback. However, she was booed off stage. She later slit her wrists, either at home or in her dressing room. She is also said to be the cause of many of the odd occurrences surrounding lead actresses in plays performed at the St. James; many actresses performing on stage have sprained their ankle, one fell from a ladder, one suddenly caught a cold and was hoarse for her opera part. Another ghost is that of Stan Andrews. He is often heard wheezing around the backstage corridors at night, checking on his ushers. Also, a boy's choir is said to haunt the auditorium. The choir played their last song at the St. James during World War II before sailing off on tour. Their ship was never seen again and workers at the theatre often hear their music in the stands. However, when they investigate the sound, it moves to a separate part of the seats. The reason why there is so much paranormal activity at the theatre is disputed, although there have been claims that the old choral hall was built on a cemetery or burial ground. This claim however, has never been proved. Jay Gibbons-GHNZ Wellington
